Not really, no. Super conductors will never be cheep. At least not in our lifetimes...two-three hundred years from now, you might be able to have a super-conductor powered device that fits inside a derringer that can launch a .50 cal bullet at the speed of sound.
In the next fifty years? IF we get a room temperature super conductor at all, it will be expensive. The power supply will most likely still not have enough power to be a reliable weapon for more than a few shots.
Yeah...you might be able to launch larger bullets..I doubt it, power draw is just as much a problem for this device as the magnet...hook up a super conductor that size up to line voltage, and you can shoot larger rounds all day. Something man portable? A few shots at the equivalent power of a .22 is a very, very unlikely estimate.
