>>1090
The city has changed rapidly in the last few decades. Loads of historic buildings being taken down (and some VERY convenient fires if you follow me) to be replaced by modern stuff and even condos, something I wasn't expecting to see.

It's a pretty old city for North America actually. There's no grid, there was no long term planning and everything was designed for horses and carts on the left hand side and of course, somewhere along the way someone decided that everyone in the Americas was going to switch sides of the road. So getting around downtown is a nightmare, and makes me glad I'm mostly on foot when I'm in town.

not my pic here but EVERYONE captures this view or one from very near this spot; tourists, pro photographers, painters, everyone.

Reminds me of Sacramento, California (except for the snow). A lot of historic (and historic-looking) buildings scattered about with the occasional tallish/modernish building spattered about looking kind of half-hearted and out of place. Sacto's not a bad place, but I don't think I'd want to live there…

Distance shot of the city. All of the stuff in the above pics is hidden by the roll of the hills in this one, sort of near that bit of ocean you see which is where the Port opens.

In the foreground is a yank girlfriend who visited a couple of years ago and thought it was lovely here. And I think I'm done now...

There are a bunch of these "lanes" downtown. The major streets run like contour lines along the hills, and are intersected by some very steep side streets and these so-called lanes which run between them.

A little crooked, but I think my camera might have been drinking a bit by this point in the evening.

The Port was full of ships yesterday... maybe the boats were coming in to lay low because a storm was coming.

Just to kindle some more activity here, how about we post some pics of our hometowns. Or, wherever you are at the moment. Preferably ones you took yourself but not necessarily.

This is St. John's, Newfoundland. Most of the pictures you see in postcards are "quaint" images of old timey stuff and a lot of that stuff is cool but in keeping with the theme of this board I wanted to show some pics of her other, more urban side.
