so, i've been watching boston legal recently – not very cyberpunk, i know, but this very episode dealt with a hormone that let's people trust you and although the name of this hormone was a fantasy name, i found after some searching on the internet the name of the real thing: oxytocin.
it's effects reminded me of the second or the third chaptor of neuromancer (at least i guess so … it's been a while since i read it.) … so, does any of you any other drug that may be used to alter people's behaviour towards you? maybe even on a large scale?

Sup /cy/ I lurk on here a lot for images and ideas, mostly for tabletop RPGs. Big cyberpunk fan, I wrote this short story a while back which is fairly cyberpunk in nature, I'd like to know what you think of it.

http://tinypaste.com/48d7fe

As a tinypaste link because I dont want to spam up your board with it. Interesting note; I was permanently banned from (perhaps the most well known) chan for posting this on the Traditional Games board. Go figure.
Pic semi-related. its some sketches for a tabletop game I ran, to give the players an idea of where they were.

When was this? Even minecraft threads are de-facto sanctioned by the mods now so I'd say the current environment would be pretty receptive to you.

Wait, hold up... was it an instant ban, or do you think a mod did it manually? It might have been the autoban acting up, it does that a lot. I got banned once for posting a "banned url" when my post didn't have a url in it for instance (?_?) see, Moot set the squelch on that thing to a mighty powerful setting when they were getting pounded by spam a couple of years ago and he hasn't bothered to reset it, or work out the glitches. Pretty sure no one actually reads ban appeals either.

If it was a mod ban, I have no idea. /tg/ always seemed like a friendly place but I never lurked much because I never had much to say there.

About a week and a half ago?
There was a splurge of cyberpunk-themed threads, people talking about good background music for games, settings, the new Syndicate game, so I started a thread and within an hour (I got some decent feedback, people liked the story and idea, no trolling or crap like that) and then refreshed the page feeling great with myself and blam. Banned.

I figure it was a mod-ban, because it specifically mentioned 'transhumanism isn't traditional games' I would have thought the story more cyberpunk, but I guess I got a mod who was sick of the whole cyberpunk vs transhumanism and THAT ISNT CYBERPUNK, X IS CYBERPUNK threads that come up now and then

A government surveillance software scandal that erupted in Germany this weekend has spread beyond that nation's borders, raising questions about how far government officials around the globe might go to monitor citizens through spyware.

Hey all,

Was thinking of doing a cyberpunk cosplay/costume for Halloween this year (male). If anyone has good pictures of people in cyberpunk costumes, I'd appreciate if you could post them.

Thanks in advance :)

Yea cosplay to me means a specific character so no reason to hate on someone going as, say, JC Denton or Anna Navarre...

Major problem with that, however, is that a good many cyberpunk costumes are going to end up with you just sighing loudly and telling people that yes, you are the guy from the Matrix by the end of the night. Any costume outside of 'the guy from Top Gun' for men or 'sexy [noun]' for women tends to get that reaction...

I already started, It's about machine learning.
For those who don't know, Arthur Samuel (1959) defined it as: Field of study that gives computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed.

I love science and science fiction. I don't really care for money and all that come with it. I am just looking to start a commune, what do I need to do? I would also like to use as much technology as possible, even maybe automate some processes. would any one else be interested?

So run it through a hydrogen/magnasgass separation rig, make a burnable fuel, and run it through a generator.

That's not entirely true, as you turn the sunlight down, you do get less voltage, but you do have a diode that prevents backflow from the battery.

Either way, your electronics have to be able to handle a small range of voltages from 10 to 16 volts or so. This isn't so much a problem inherit in solar power systems as it is DC in general. Since the voltage you get out of a battery varies to start with, most electronics that are designed to work off 12 volt DC already can handle the variance.

Now, I haven't dealt with wind generators myself. Do they output DC or AC? If you're getting DC out of them, then really there shouldn't be an issue.

I did see a few in the store catalog where I got my solar panels. The marine wind generators all had automatic speed control built into them. They were also horribly expensive per watt in comparison.

"AN ARTIFICIAL cerebellum has restored lost brain function in rats, bringing the prospect of cyborg-style brain implants a step closer to reality. Such implants could eventually be used to replace areas of brain tissue damaged by stroke and other conditions, or even to enhance healthy brain function and restore learning processes that decline with age."

I think we could use a /cy/ media thread. So far the best cyberpunk movies I've seen are:

Blade Runner
Fifth Element
The Matrix (Entire Series)

As far as anime goes, I've seen:

Ghost in the Shell (all but SSS and Innocence)
Appleseed (2004, saga ex machina)
Serial Experiments Lain (need to finish this asap)
Ergo Proxy (some people/most people hate this, but I enjoyed it)
Bubblegum Crisis (not all of it, will watch after Lain)

These are the actual films/shows that I felt a /cy/ vibe when watching. Out of all of it I enjoyed Ghost in the Shell the most. As far as movies, I enjoyed Blade Runner the most, but thoroughly enjoyed both, the matrix and the fifth element.

The first Deus Ex was awesome. The second one was ok. I swear we've talked about this series more on this board...

I'm playing a mildly /cy/ related mmo/shooter called Global Agenda. It's free to play on steam..micro transactions to buy better leveling and items and paint, but everything you can buy, minus a few cosmetic items, are available in the game either as loot drops, with game currency, or as mission loot. It's a post apoc setting with mechs, rocket packs, a war against a megacorp, and now a invading army of self replicating robots. It looks like it started out pretty much core FPS, but they just released the second RPG sort of outdoor area with more quests and so on.

I started playing that a little while ago but got sort of bored with it. It seemed a little grindy. Does it get better when you get to the higher levels?

So! I'm sure some of you is playing Deus Ex by now. Friend of mine has it and has been torturing me with screenshots!
Pretty cruel that is.
At least friend doesn't like tf2 so I'm getting that.

me: i think it's too easy to get lost on the way to your own flat right at the start in that game. may have had too many beers though.

colleague: the city is DEHR is rodocolos. People’s commute to work apparently involves climbing out of a third storey window in their flats because barely any of them even have front doors, shimmying halfway down a drain pipe to jump onto an air conditioning unit and into someone else’s house, through their property and exit through the ventilation system, cross the awnings above shops so you can jump into a low-hanging pipe to cross over the pointless wall-to-wall pile of rubbish blocking the street for no reason, nip into the sewers to circumvent random fencing that exists for no reason, and up into their offices via the maintenance tunnels.

Looks like they're adding advertisements to the loading screens.
http://www.themogblog.com/2011/09/15/deus-ex-augmenting-real-advertisements-in-your-games/
From what I've read, they're also going to start replacing Eidos billboards in the city hubs with advertisements from real-world companies.

I'm ok with that as long as it doesn't break the game because I have an ad-server blocking hosts file.
