I like steampunk for it's creative use of limited materials. For me, it's lure is that you only have such a variety of parts to build with.

As integris pointed out, I believe steampunk to be a branch of hacking. Here's what I have to work with, let's see what I can make, or more so how I can make it.

An example would be building a source of power for my house that relies only on the power of STEAM. or maybe a functioning clock.

I admit, I like the look of steampunk most, but if it doesn't DO something, what's the point? I mean, even if what it does is completely unrelated to it's look, like the steampunk laptop, it still does something and looks cool as hell

Michael J Penn - http://michaeljpenn.com/

"I always thought a science fiction version of The Wizard of Oz would be an interesting approach. So I took the concept a step further by creating a steampunk interpretation. This allowed the environment to maintain an innocent quality while having a primitive hi-tech feel. In this painting I imagine Oz is a distant planet, similar to earth but skewed toward the bizarre."

most of the art is pretty cool, but IMHO few of them are actually creative. Maybe It's because the pictures are being viewed without context but there isn't anything he's done that hasn't been done a million times already.
>> No. 175
Yeah, most of it is generic fantasy stuff. But I figured this one would be relevant to our interests.

Did anyone here watch this and enjoy it for its steampunk elements. I know I did. Everyone seems to bash the movie for going off on a tangent, but because that tangent was mechanical pre-modernized engineering, I enjoyed it.

Gentlemen. It is time we formed a society of men both Intrepid and audacious in their disposition. May the call go out across the ether. The Fantastic League of Somewhat Gentlemanly Figures!

Let it also be known that the first meeting of the F.L.O.S.G.F. shall included free scones and tea. that is all.

I'm not much into steampunk but i'd figure i'd get your opinion on this trailer. i think it looks promising, its currently under development hell at the time being but its supposed to start development back up in October.
>> No. 103
There isn't all that much information in this trailer. So far it doesn't look like anything special.
