What would you like screen shots of? There's a world full of places?

You're avatar is really nice btw.

I haven't been on Second life for almost 2 years so I've never seen New Babbage. What kind of sites are there to see around the city? how's the community?

Ahh..I see what you meant. I'll go take some shots of New Babbage for you. It may take a few days to get it done.

I stopped by New Babbage late last night. Here are some screen shots. It's really hard to get good photos of some of the big builds, so I decided to do partial shots. Also, last night was laggy as heck!

This is a shot of the base of the observatory. It was a dark and story night... :-)

Sorry, I didn't mean to start a new thread with that one previous photo

I'm flying up to the dome room. Here is where the 'scope is kept. The room is at ambient temperature the year around. Fortunately I have the Whitney Steam tank near my to keep me warm.

Inside and my steamer staves folded away. This was taken just before I decided to move some levers.

Hey, I didn't see any signs warning me to not touch!

Heading up to check out the 'scope. I decided to pass on taking a look through the eyepiece and go look at the business end...

Well, folks... this is where everything happens. Very impressive to see. I'm not so sure about how well the massiveness comes across in a photo. You really need to go there to experience it.

Here I am at the docks. I can't tell you much about the submarine here. It looks like a two-person craft based on Captain Nemo's much larger design.

I hope it's safer than Mr. Nemo's craft as he has not been heard from since he sailed out of New Babbage over six years ago.

While I was photographing the submarine this newly launched stern wheeler pulled in to dock along side and the owner came down to welcome her to port.

The owner invited me aboard. She said that the craft is so new that it has not been outfitted properly yet. She is planning on furnishing the interior. It seemed to me to be able to handle 20 passengers or so.

The small stove aboard had just been lit and was still laboring to warm the cabin.

I next went to see the power plant. The power begins within large steam tanks from which the steam is piped to a converter unit. I'm not sure whether the steam is then disassociated or some other process is used, but the process makes drinking water as a by-product to also generating a high voltage current.

I didn't photograph the converter as I wasn't sure if it was allowed.

This shot was taken from a landing on the way up to the main control room. Here you can see an additional bank of steam boilers.

I'm not sure if this bank is for backup in case of an outage or to provide additional capacity. I was hoping that someone in the control room would be able to tell me.

Dang!! Once again I messed up and put a photo into a new thread!

This is my last photo in this series. Looking up at the control room ceiling you can see the final step in the generation of power for New Babbage. Again, I feel my photos do not give majesty to this stage of production.

Eight large pipes distribute the arcing high voltage to two large collector rings as the central anode of the Tesla coils spins ponderously above the heads of anyone in the control room! It's a sight to behold and is nearly completely silent.

Here I am in the main control room on the top floor. Everyone was either at break or had gone to lunch. One of the great advantages to this kind of power generation is the remarkable self-regulation the equipment possesses.
A small Jacob's Ladder in the background gives a visual depiction of the overall generation quality, while the gauges on the left wall cover the various boiler pressures and the equipment on the right provides output conditions.

Here I'm hovering just outside the main door. I'm accomplishing this feat with the help of a Whitney steam-powered stave-wing flapper. I love it because it folds up upon landing! At least this model has that advanced option.

Thanks to some help, I get these two photos back into the thread I had intended to post them into. They are out of order however.

Photos provided by a Traveler. More photos of New Babbage to come.

For those who are unfamiliar with New Babbage, it is a island group in SecondLife. SecondLife does not require a fee to join or to use. It is absolutely free. The software, called a "viewer" is also free to download. I suggest the older viewer, not Version 2, unless you have a super-hefty video card.

Once you are in-world, click the search button, select to search for "Places" and type in "New Babbage".

You will get a list of places within the New Babbage isles with the most popular destination first, and so on. Hit the Teleport button and in a whoosh you will be there.

It's winter in New Babbage, so dress accordingly.
