Ew.

Tbh the only thing I know about codpieces is that Henry VIII's was so large that there was (is?) a trend for women to stick a pin in it when it was on display in order to have luck in conceiving a child.

Considering he won't be wearing it into actual battle, a full Gambeson isn't really necessary, though. I'd go with something a lot more breathable, say denim. Actually, if you just went out and got a old denim jacket, that could do the trick...and then, anywhere that's visible, you "steampunk" it up, by rolling thin garment leather over it, brown, most likely.

I see plenty of steampunk art with brass plate armour, so I don't see why scalemail wouldn't be ok. Especially since scalemail feels less temporally located and more fantasy-orientated anyway. As Dra says, though, that shit is Hell on skin - a padded underjacket is pretty much essential if you're gonna wear it for any length of time.

That's impressive...did you make the little scales yourself or is there a place you buy them from? I don't care if it's /ste/ or not. The steel is a little unusual in common steampunk elements, but...you can make it work, somehow?
